5 reasons why your blog isn’t performing well + FREE DOWNLOAD

It’s no secret that a blog is one of the most effective tools to establishing yourself as an expert in your niche and attracting more traffic for your business. If you’re like so many bloggers out there, you religiously watch your site views and comment numbers, waiting for reader engagement to take off. After all, you’ve poured hours and hours into your blog and it’s natural to wonder why your blog isn’t performing well.

Five reasons why your blog isn't performing well + free download

Maybe you’ve had a few hits on a blog post here and there, but you haven’t seen consistent growth or experienced significant change in your business.

Today, I’m sharing with you 5 key reasons why your blog isn’t performing well and how to transform your blog into a profit + reader magnet in 10 easy steps.

1. Your blog content isn’t focused on a clear, specific niche.

It is so easy (especially with a lifestyle blog) to write about anything and everything that comes to mind. However, unclear content focus is often the number one reason why a blog isn’t performing well. Even if your blog’s topic is broad, it’s important to define 3-5 sub-topics that you can consistently write about. Your readers want to know what to expect when they visit your blog. If your topics are specific, they will return for advice/help/expertise on those specific topics. In this case, it is better to be an expert on a few things than a “jack-of-all-trades”. Addressing specific topics in your posts will build trust and loyalty with your readers.

2. The way your blog is laid out is cluttered and hard to navigate.

Another reason your blog isn’t performing well may be because of how it’s been physically laid out and built. Maybe your navigation menu is hidden or your post categories are hard to find. If this is you, don’t be discouraged! Just by reading this post, you are well ahead of the game when it comes to blog layout and user experience. In order to impress and capture the attention of potential readers, your blog needs to be clearly organized and easy for them to navigate.

The layout and structure of your blog is also important for establishing good SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Search engines like Google look for sites that are structured in a clear and organized way to rank in their results. Start by rethinking small elements of your blog, like how you can better organize your primary navigation menu.

3. Your posts aren’t drawing your readers in or encouraging them to engage

Unfortunately, it’s not enough to deliver your main points, add a pretty image and hit “Publish”. Another reason why your blog isn’t performing well is because you aren’t giving your readers any reason to engage with your posts or stick around for more. Every single post should contain a Call to Action. These could be questions you’d like readers to respond to in the comments or links to other posts on your blog you think readers might be interested in reading next.

4. Your blog doesn’t have a clear way for readers to engage with you 24/7.

Providing a way for readers to engage with your content and commit to you 24/7 is easy to lookover. Can’t they leave a comment or shoot you an email if they have questions? Yes, absolutely. But who knows when you’ll have time to respond to them. Within 24-48 hours? That’s plenty of time for the reader to forget all about you and your blog.

You need to provide a way for readers to engage with you and receive a response from you 24/7. The best way to do this is to set up a Lead Magnet or Email Opt-In form. This is a form that always lives on your blog and offers readers a piece of valuable information that compliments your blog content in exchange for their email address. This could be a PDF download, free email course, template or checklist. A Lead Magnet is a way for readers who are ready to engage to get instant access to you. And in return, you’ll have their email address in the case you’d like to share something with them in the future (which you will).

5. You don’t know how to optimize your social media platforms for maximum post traffic and engagement.

It is so easy to feel overwhelmed by social media and how to optimize it for your blog. But ignoring it because you feel afraid or overwhelmed is another reason why your blog isn’t performing as well as it could be. Social media = FREE ADVERTISING. So it’s imperative that you take some time to formulate a plan, even if it’s small.

Your blog is an incredible asset to your business goals. It’s worth investing in and it’s worth getting right.
