As a business owner, blogger or serious side-hustler, having new branded graphics for your business is a constant need. Every day it feels like there’s a new blog post, social media post or announcement that needs a graphic for better visual communication of your product or message.

Today, I’m sharing 5 tips for creating branded graphics for your business that are consistent and effective.
1. Keep it simple.
When you’re creating a graphic, it can be easy to want to cram as much information in as possible. However, from a visual standpoint, the less text on the graphic the better. Too much text will overwhelm your reader. Try to condense the text you’d like to use to 5-7 words for optimal readability and clarity.
2. Use a larger font for words you want to stand out.
Another great way to bring emphasis and clarity to your graphic text is to vary your font size. Choose one or two keywords that bring the most meaning to your graphic and make those larger than the rest of your text. For example, if you want your graphic to say “A beginner’s guide to monetizing your blog” you may want to make the words “monetize” and “blog” bolder and larger than the rest of the words. This will catch the reader’s eye much quicker than if they had to read each word and determine for themselves which were important to the subject of the post or page.
3. Use images with a large amount of negative space.
There are so many great images out there that can enhance your graphic and provide more visual content. However, make sure to be choose and use images that contain a large amount of negative space. Graphics that contain both a large amount of text and a busy photo are messy and hard to read. If you’re using an image with a large amount of negative space, it leaves a place for your text to go without muddying the design and visual appeal.
4. Be consistent with your design.
This tip is SO important! If you are sharing blog posts and graphics frequently, you want viewers to immediately recognize where they are coming from. Creating a formula or template for your graphics is a great way to make sure each one has a consistent design aesthetic. You’ll notice throughout my blog posts, I’ve used the same graphic template, changing out the text and image for a slight variation. When my graphics come up in a Pinterest search, they are recognized as a Knick + Knack article before the viewer ever sees the source.
5. Include a Call to Action or your domain to turn your graphic into one optimized for Pinterest.
If you are planning on pinning your graphics (which I highly suggest you do!), be sure to include a clear Call to Action or your business’s URL. This invites users to visit your post or site and encourages them to engage while they are there.
